A site you may all want to check out is Icon Archive
They host a lot of icon sets for different operating systems, all of which are free, and often supported directly by the artists who put them together. Just a really smart place to find icons.
Lets face it, Windows has particularly poor icons for most devices - Plug in your phone ... Oh... Alright, it looks like another Hard Disk - So this is a great place to go to pick up something to freshen up your devices and desktop!
Here's a few great sets which you should go check out:
App Icons by Arrioch - LINK
Rabbit Xp Icons by Flameia Design - LINK
Japanicons Icons by ZaKaR - LINK
Orbz Icons by Arrioch - LINK
Some of the sets out there look really great, and trust me make it a little more tolerable browsing around your computer!
Happy browsing guys, hope you find something you like :)
Mike.
Good idea, I hate most of the Window's icons, they look like turds.
ReplyDeletenice one! I like the Japanese icons one out of the ones you posted
ReplyDeleteJapanese icons FTW! XD

ReplyDeletei dont know how to install them :/ but Great idea :)
ReplyDeleteI like the Orbz and the App icons in the ones you posted, I'll keep them handy for when I bother changing my icons. I generally don't have stuff on my desktop though and I use some custom icons sporadically for some folders.
ReplyDeleteI just can't be bothered changing all the icons, so much work. Still, thanks for linking to the site Mike, this might convince me to change my icons anyway.
I can change the icons on my computer!? I love being computer illiterate, because it means that this kind of thing amazes me.
ReplyDeleteHi eraizer
ReplyDeleteAll you need to do is go to the shortcut to your application, hit properties, and go "Change Icon" - Very easy to accomplish
If you want to change the icon for your harddrive, mp3 player etc, you need to turn on "view hidden files + system files" and a folder on the device will show up where you can change one.
There are some in depth tutorials out there, and I may post one of those in the close future.
Hm...I'm fine with the standar icons, but yours look pretty anyway
